Lock Show

Start facing round in a clockwise circle, swords up in the middle. After a phrase of music, step for a flat 8, clash on beat 8 then all turn anti-clockwise 180 degrees and start walking in an anticlockwise circle. Swords on outside shoulders.

Egg Roll

Like Egg-Whisk (see Monkey Dance) but each dancer casts out down the right hand side of the set in the order 1,3,5,2,4.

Hills

As soon as #4 has cast out they stop on the right hand side of the set, #1 casts round to the left one last time, everyone else gets into a straight line in the order 2 1 3 5 4 with swords down and flat in a line in front. Swords should snap down on beat 4 of a phrase, then step for the next 4. After this, all swords are lifted up, 1 & 5 walk forward under them and turn to face the back, all the swords are brought back down into a line, then all the swords are lifted up in arches, as in Toast Rack (see Monkey Dance). This should take four beats - 1: swords up, 1 & five move. 2: swords down. 3: wait. 4: swords pop up in arches. Step for the next 4 beats to complete the phrase.

Ironbridge

Start from the Hills display position. First 4 beats: 2 & 4 walk forwards and cross over at the front of the set whilst 1, 3 & 5 step. On beat 4 all the swords are brought down then come straight back up. Next four beats: 1 & 5 swap places, crossing over behind #3, everyone else steps for 4, all swords brought down on the 4th beat again, then come straight back up. Next 8 beats: 2 & 4 walk to the back and cross over then turn to face each other. 1, 3 & 5 are stepping, and 1 & 5 gradually turn to face the back. On beat 8, the swords are brought down on #3’s back - 1 & 5’s hands on 3’s shoulders, 2 & 4’s hands down by the kidneys. To get out, 3 casts left to the back then pushes through the middle, 1 & 5 cast to the back after #3 and cross over, 2 & 4 wait for the first two beats, then turn to face outwards. This should leave everyone in an outwards facing circle (#3 facing the audience) after 8 beats, then everyone steps for 8 in a ‘Johnty’ step (3,3,2).

Spin

From the outward facing circle, the swords swoop down then are rasied sharply above people’s heads as everyone turns left and walks round anticlockwise whilst slowly lowering the swords into a locked position - this should take 8 beats, and as soon as the eighth beat is reached, a clockwise spin should begin. After finishing the spin (20 beats), 1 & 5 should be at the back. Step for 4 to complete the phrase of music, then there is a call of “Tits Out” (don’t ask). To do this, all the swords are lifted up, 1 & 5 turn to face backwards, then landing on beat 4, they jump over swords swooped by 2, 3 & 4 (swords should remain high until just before the jump for better impact). The last 4 beats of the phrase are for 1 & 5 to turn to face forwards, and everyone to form into Coach & Horses.

Waterwheel

After stepping for 2 4s in Coach & Horses, 1 & 5 cast and jump as in “Tits” from the Monkey Dance, for 4 beats. Upon landing, everyone remains in a straight line and the swooped swords are slowly brought up and over 1 & 5 until all swords are in a straight line in front (1 & 5 step for 4 whilst this is happening to complete the first phrase). Next 1 & 5 swoop for #3 to jump on the spot, followed by 2, 3 & 4 swooping for 1 & 5 to jump on the spot (the jumps should land on beats 2 & 4 respectively). For the next 4 beats, 1 & 5 step for 4 whilst the swooped swords are lifted above their heads then slowly down in front of them again. 2 & 4 will need to perform a windmill style spinning motion whilst this is happening. Repeat the swoops & jumps a second time, however this time as soon as 1 & 5 land their jumps, everyone should turn into an inward facing circle, then step for 2 4s.

(Round the) Wrekin

From an inward facing circle, #1 takes a step into the middle with their swords above their head and hands together, whilst stepping for 8 in a “one, two, buckle my shoe” pattern followed by a straight 4. Whilst this is happening, everyone else walks round clockwise with their swords raised and hands together. After these 8 beats, #1 should step backwards to join the outer circle, whilst #5 steps into the middle to do the same as #1 did. After the next 8, #3 should then do the same in the middle. When in the middle, #1 should be facing to the back-right, #5 should be facing to the back-left, and #3 should be facing forwards (the direction each would be facing when in an inward facing circle). After #3 has stepped for their 8, 1 & 5 should be at the front of the set, and 2 & 4 should be at the back. To get out, 1 & 5 cast on the outside of 2 & 4, #3 spins on the spot. From here, either form an outward facing circle by turning to face out, or form a straight-line tumble by 1 & 5 turning to face forward. After tumbling, form an outward facing circle by 1 & 5 casting to the back, #3 pushing through the middle to face the audience. Step for 8 in Johnty again.

Lock Show

From the outward facing circle, perform the same “Down and Round” motion as in the end of Ironbridge, however this time instead of a spin, lock the swords on beat 8 and all step for 4, then move into a V formation (3 at the front, flanked by 2 & 4, then 1 & 5). Step for 8 in this formation.

Dumbusters

From the lock-show, everyone turns in for 4, the lock is then lowered and everyone steps for 4. Whilst stepping, everyone should take the outer handle on their right with their left hand, then take the outer handle on their left by putting their right hand over the top of their left hand. During the next 4 beats, the swords should be lifted up, everyone should be able to turn clockwise, then lower the swords onto their shoulders in a walkaround on beat 3. When #1 gets to the front, begin the Dumbusters figure - this is like dambusters except the slipping and spinning happens on both sides of the set - 1, 3 & 5: slip on the left, slip on the right, then spin down the left, then spin down the right, 2 & 4: slip on the right, slip on the left, then spin down the right, then spin down the left. After this, #1 casts on the left one last time, then finishes back in a walkaround, which opens up into an inward facing circle when 1 & 5 reach the front of the set.
